SafeCast Global is an Anglo-Australian project which seeks to require self applied content ratings in all video to protect children from harmful content on television and the internet without censorship. SafeCast’s self-applied content ratings enable the automatic filtering of inappropriate content away from children and vulnerable people on televisions and the internet. By using existing broadcasting standards and norms in association with standards-based labelling SafeCast’s intention is to push the adoption of universal child protection across all video media and platforms.
SafeCast’s labelling and filtering replicates the original UK linear TV watershed system but on all media platforms without censorship. SafeCast technology was created by Alistair and Diana Kelman and is protected by granted patents in both the UK (GB2498499) and the USA (9,392 302) whose claims apply only to advertisements in streaming video (i.e. catch-up and timeshifted video) – all others can use the technology free of charge.
